Ariel Bruce, Social Work Consultant

Ariel is a qualified and registered social worker who has been supporting people affected by adoption since 1985. Over the years, she has featured in many newspaper articles and documentaries. The broadsheets have called her the ‘Agatha Christie of the adoption world’ and ‘perfection in detection.’

Ariel has contributed to social work publications, trained practitioners, and led innovative work with Foundlings and their birth families. From 2011 to 2024, she was the lead social worker for Long Lost Family, whilst also working with private clients. From 2024 Lottie Bruce-Lloyd has taken over as the new Long Lost Family Social Work Lead.

In Mark Steel’s stand up performance about his adoption, Who Do You Think I Am?, and also on his Desert Island Disks, Ariel is mercilessly mimicked. He has promised her that it’s an affectionate imitation! Her greatest claim to shame!

Ariel is available for speaking engagements. She has recently taken part in the podcast Generation Shame with Jon Holmes and previously appeared on Women’s Hour.
